And just like that, a dream came true. There I was, on Prince Edward Island, holding his hand, standing in front of Green Gables. Yellow leaves crunching, the smell of October making everydayness and little moments feel magical and special and full of hope. I'm being dramatic, but that's the Anne Shirley in me.Read More
As I type this, I'm sitting on a quilt-covered bed in a doily-decked Bed & Breakfast in Hancock, Maine. (To clarify, we absolutely love this place. I kind of dig the doily charm.) I can hear the British women talking about their day in the room next door, and I'm positive they can hear Kyle watching highlights of the U.S. Men's Soccer match on his phone. And they probably respect him for it.Read More
What a weekend! Usually, we have the Sunday blues right about now, thinking about the work week ahead. But today, we're just grateful. You're a big deal around here, October, and you've been good to us already!
October brought an influx of punkin' errything & an expanded Starbucks budget, but, unfortunately, it also waged a war against my skin. You know it's fall (almost winter) when your lips are chapped, your hands are dry and cracked, and your face feels tight and parched. I think I FINALLY have a few remedies for these autumn skin issues.
HANDS & ELBOWS: Trader Joe's Pumpkin Body Butter – It smells like H-E-A-V-E-N. It's thick, but not oily. Vegan. It soaks right in and actually lasts. Most lotions wear off quickly, actually making my skin more dry. But not this. [p.s. I only use this on my hands/elbows. For everything else, I use coconut oil. Lotions trigger rashes for me. And rashes suck.] Contains coconut oil, shea butter & pumpkin seed oil - no paraens or phthalates. Best of all? 8 oz. for $4.99.
[available only at Trader Joe's]
LIPS: Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Chapstick – The most effective moisturizing chapstick. Leaves your kisser looking mildly glossed without color (sometimes that classic red lip just isn't necessary). I buy at least one a month (ahem, addicted). Its almond shape is perfect for gliding over lips and sliding into pockets. I love the fun look of EOS lip balm, but come on. Try fitting that in your pocket.
[available at Target]
FACE: Carol’s Daughter Face Butter - I happened upon this face butter during one of my weaker Target wandering trips. It found its way into my cart, and now into my heart. The relief is immediate, even for extreme redness and dryness. And I never need to reapply between sunup and sundown.
